With the news that Trent Green will be starting in place of Marc Bulger for Week 4's matchup with the Bills, I feel compelled to open up the time machine and revisit Week 6 of the 2002 season. The 4-0 Raiders - and eventual AFC champion Raiders - visit the Edward Jones Dome to take on the 0-5 Rams. Not only were the Rams winless, they were without starting quarterback Kurt Warner and gave the start to backup Marc Bulger.

In the ultimate NFL swerve, the Rams won 28-13.

This weekend, the Bills are favored by 8, a sign that much of the gambling public is still hesitant to put their faith in them. After all, Buffalo just barely eked out a win over the Raiders, and the 0-3 Bengals recently took the Giants to the wire in overtime.

Even with that news and a little Rams history, I say bet the whole kit and kibuddle on the Bills. This Rams team is terrible. Even an injection of offense from a different signal-caller won't negate the fact that the Rams defense can't stop anyone.

Josh Bacott already gave you the link, but it's worth revisiting if you've yet to read Bernie Miklasz's Tuesday column on the state of the Rams. In short, the Rams are hopeless. That's an accurate statement and sad all at the same time.

Read these last few thoughts from his column and then we'll discuss:
If Rosenbloom steps back for a moment and really thinks about this, he'll do the merciful thing and put an end to the suffering. Because this is sad, and the depression will only deepen. Linehan is drowning. His wife, understandably distraught, was crying in Seattle at the end of Sunday's 37-13 loss.

What is the benefit, the value, of continuing to allow this coach to endure needless humiliation?

Why continue to torture Linehan? The coach won't be able to turn this around; his demise is inevitable.

So why prolong the misery?

If Bernie failed to mention Linehan's wife, an outsider with no knowledge of football could argue Miklasz was talking about a dying dog - owned by Rosenbloom. Yes, Old Yeller Snydrome has taken over Rams Park.
