Game Result: Buffalo 31, St. Louis 14 (gamelink)

NFC West Standings:
The NFC West is the MLB's National League Central from a few years ago.  Just horrific.  Arizona started out with some pep, but has now lost 2 straight - including yesterday's 56-35 loss to the New York Favrets.  San Francisco lost 31-17 to New Orleans, meaning NFC West teams went 0-3 yesterday and gave up an average of 39.9 points.

With a bye week, Seattle coach Mike Holmgren sat at home in front of his television, smiling, and licking Cheeto's residue from his mustache - knowing that, even in the midst of his team's worst start in a decade, they're still the likely favorite to win this division.

Opposing Head Coach (Dick Jauron): Wearing a wig? Made completely from wax?

Good possibility.  No, not really.

What The World Is Saying...

"As much as there is to like about the Bills -- and they're about as refreshing a story as you can find in the NFL right now -- it was hard to watch their offense struggle so mightily against a Rams defense that is allowing 36.8 points and 411.8 yards per game." [ESPN.com]

"On the other hand, maybe Linehan is just that type of guy. Meaning, he's totally willing to go out in utter flames with Green leading the charge." [AOL Fanhouse]

"Then the second half started, and just like last year, the Rams played two very uneven halves." [Turf Show Times]

Linehan Fired:
We won't get into this mess right here, other than to say that we're hoping this firing is the first of many within the Rams organization - simply because this job cannot possibly be appealing to any *good* external candidate on the market, whether it's mid-season or off-season.  Bad players, bad front office, bad stadium, bad stadium contract, bad tradition, bad reputation, bad fans.

Welcome to the organization.

Up Next For the Rams:
Bye week.  WOO-HOO!!!! Week 5 will mark the first loss-less week for the 2008 Rams.  Enjoy it, Rams fans - because you might not see it again until Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals at the Ed Jones Dome.  Even then, we're guessing the Rams will be 3 point 'dogs.

The Rams play at Washington (3-1), host Dallas (3-1), and play Week 8 in New England (2-1).  Ouch.  Could very quickly/easily/possibly be a 0-7 start.

Statistic That Means Absolutely Nothing:
Trent Green = alive.  Not that Trent Green actually "being alive" means "nothing" - because alive people are good...but if Vegas actually had a line on if Trent Green would live to see Monday morning, it was probably somewhere around 50/50.

Degenerate Hindsight:
BILLS (+8.5) over RAMS ---- Buffalo covered, but this one provided some second-guess Sunday morning gambling, as it seemed the Rams would beat the spread heading into the 4Q with a 14-13 lead.  In the span of 5 minutes, the Bills scored a total of 15 points on a interception and a long touchdown pass to Lee Evans.

Over/Under: 43.5 ---- 45 total points were actually scored.  A late field goal from Bills kicker, Rian Lindell, pushed the game tally from 42 to 45, beating the points.  Buffalo coaching staff must have bet the over.

Season Betting Statistics:
Rams opponents covering spread, 4-0
Over/Under: 3/1

Did The Rams Defense Give Up 300 Yards Passing?
-- Negative: 197 yards (Edwards)
-- Season: 1-3

Did The Rams Defense Give Up 100 Yards Rushing?
-- Nope: 57 yards (Marshawn Lynch)
-- Season: 3-1

Did The Rams Offensive Line Allow More Than 3 Sacks?

-- Surprisingly, no: 2
-- Season: 2-2

Steven Jackson On Pace for 2500 Total Yards (Over Two Seasons):

Steven Jackson had a big day at the office on Sunday - racking up 110 yards rushing, and 78 yards receiving (total of 188 yards).  That helped add to Steven Jackon's 2500 yards of promised all-purpose action before the  2007 season.  We're guessing we meant over the course of one season, but since he fell insanely short of the number last year, we're helping him add up the values over the course of two seasons.

Let's see where he stands.

2008: 269 yds rushing + 211 yds receiving = 480 all purpose yds.
2007: 1002 yds rushing + 271 yds receiving =  1273 all purpose yds.

Total: 292 + 1273 = 1565 yards

With 12 games remaining in 2008, SteveJack needs to  62.25 all-purpose yards/game to break the 2500 yards promise.  Baring anything completely ridiculous, we're guessing he gets there.

There's Always Next Week - Let's Be Positive...and Inspirational
