Game Result: St. Louis 19, Washington 17 (gamelink)

NFC West Standings:
Through 6 weeks of action, the Rams have the same record as the Seattle Seahawks, winners of the NFC West over the last four seasons .  Long story short, that record (1-4) is good for last place - but hey, it sounded good.  San Francisco lost 40-26 to Philadelphia, but Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals took down the Cowboys in overtime, to improve to 4-2.

Kurt Warner and the gang of young Arizona receivers can really put up some points.  In fact, their 177 total points this season is second only to the San Diego Chargers (178).  An average of 29.5 points/game isn't too shabby - especially when you put it in relative terms.  For instance, the Rams have scored 62 points this season - or an average of 12.4 points/game.

Opposing Head Coach (Jim Zorn): Sporting Willie McGee's upside-down ears?

Definitely.

Haslett's Future in St. Louis
Apparently, someone in the Rams front office put an exact number of Jim Haslett's future in St. Louis.  That number is "6".  Win 6 games, and Haslett will be offered a long-term deal as the new Rams head coach.  To be perfectly honest, 6 wins really seemed like a long shot two weeks ago.  In fact, it still seems like a shot in the dark.

The remaining schedule is a bit odd, and tough to judge.  The back half of the Rams' 2008 schedule was supposed to be easier than the front half...but that might not be the case anymore.  In order, the Rams have games against Dallas (4-2), at New England (3-2), against Arizona (4-2), at NY Jets (3-2), at San Francisco (2-4), against Chicago (3-3), against Miami (2-3), at Arizona, against Seattle (1-4), against San Francisco, and at Atlanta (4-2).

Miami and Atlanta are both better than previously advertised, and the Rams suspect secondary is *really* going to be challenged against air teams like New York and Arizona.  Seattle has been injured all season, but should have Bobby Engram and Deion Branch back by Week 13.

All things considered, we're not sure who set the bar in the Rams front office.  Perhaps they contracted a Vegas bookie or something, and they thought "6" was the number.  Personally, we would've placed Haslett's future at "3 wins", because even that would be a stretch.

Up Next For the Rams:
Dallas, at home.  The early line for next Sunday's game has Dallas favored by 12, which is probably about right.  Dallas puts up about 30 points per game, and St. Louis gives up about 33.  Yea, sounds about right.

It should be a fun one for the kids, though.  Romo, Barber, and Owens are all in the top 10 of NFL jerseys sold.  The majority of the sales is a product of the Dallas marketing monster, but it'll be nice to have some big names in the house.

Tough question: if you want to buy a Rams jersey, and secure your purchase by getting a player that will be a legitimate star in this franchise for years to come...what jersey do you purchase?  It's definitely sad that the first name that comes to mind is Chris Long - a rookie defensive lineman.

Fun With Snappy Headlines:
Washington beat writers and editors like to have fun with a last name like "Zorn".  Case in point...

Degenerate Hindsight:
REDSKINS (+13.5) over RAMS ---- The Rams haven't been 13.5 underdogs since October 17th, 2005 against the Colts in Indy.  The Rams more than covered by beating the favored Redskins at FedEx Field, causing heartache for degenerates riding the Rams train of opponents covering the spread over the past 12 games, dating back to Week 8 of 2007.

Over/Under: 44 ---- 36 total points were actually scored.   The 'Skins offense only averaged 21 points/game coming into Week 6.  Granted, the Rams defense gives up over 30....but we're not sure what the bookies were thinking by setting the over/under at 44.  We should've jumped all over that.

Season Betting Statistics:

Rams opponents covering spread, 4-1
Over/Under: 3/2

Did The Rams Defense Give Up 300 Yards Passing?
-- Negative: 208 yards (Campbell)
-- Season: 1-4

Did The Rams Defense Give Up 100 Yards Rushing?
-- Yes sir: 129 yards (Clinton Portis)
-- Season: 4-1

Did The Rams Offensive Line Allow More Than 3 Sacks?
-- Nope: 2
-- Season: 2-3

Steven Jackson On Pace for 2500 Total Yards (Over Two Seasons):
For the third straight game, Steven Jackson put together over 100 yards in rushing and receiving - getting him ever closer to that 2500 all-purpose yards promise he made back before the start of the 2007 season.

Let's see where he stands.

2008: 348 yds rushing + 243 yds receiving = 591 all purpose yds.
2007: 1002 yds rushing + 271 yds receiving =  1273 all purpose yds.

Total: 591 + 1273 = 1864 yards

With 11 games remaining in 2008, SteveJack needs to average 57.80 all-purpose yards/game to break the 2500 yards promise.

There's Always Next Week - Let's Be Positive...and Inspirational
